SMYK – CEDET, Warszawa

Extremely complicated, but equally prestigious project carried out together with Alprojekt. A commercial, service and office complex consisting of two completely different buildings joined together to form a harmonious whole.
One of them is a faithful reconstruction of the facade of the historic CEDET from 1952, identical in appearance but incomparable in parameters, as required by modern standards and enabled by modern technologies. In order to reflect the original, modernist character of the building, an individual, completely new system of aluminum profiles had to be created, massive and at the same time sculpted in detail. Appropriate surface finish in a noble, silver anode also refers to the then architectural elegance, which has survived to this day in an impeccable style. The reconstruction of the famous neon sign with an arrow moves all Varsovians, and reminds the older ones of the times when CEDET was the symbol and salon of the city.
The second building, completely different in its undeniable modernity, is characterized by a restless, dynamic shape and a multi-faceted façade, but it has clear references, creating a background for CEDET. Rhythmic faults giving the “scale effect” set an excellent perspective towards the historical building, the lines of gray spandrels extend the concrete ceiling strips, and the slants on the top floor repeat the motif of the winged roof.
The object is very difficult to implement, but the satisfaction from participating in such an undertaking is enormous.
